As part of our Corpers’ Corner Initiative under our Mentorship Programme, RETECH Foundation in collaboration with Premier Hub had a successful Assessment Centre for 10 National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) members on Saturday the 15th of October 2022. The aim of the assessment centre was to provide the NYSC members with first-hand experience of a typical graduate recruitment assessment centre which will ultimately improve their chances of success in their applications for employment.
The activities included review of their CVs, mock interviews and group exercises. Our assessors reviewed the content of their CVs and provided the NYSC members with valuable feedback, suggestions and advice on how they can improve their CVs and therefore improve their chances of being selected/shortlisted for job interviews/assessment centres. It also included mock interview sessions where questions were asked to check the NYSC members ability to prioritize work, to plan, to check their understanding of achievements and to determine if the NYSC member is a goal getter amongst others. For the group exercise, the NYSC members had to discuss and analyse a case study in groups of 5 with a view to assessing their attitude, dominance level, analytical/critical thinking skills, listening skills and participatory behaviour. Feedback was provided to the NYSC members at the end of the day.
We would like to thank RETECH Foundation’s Chair, Ronye Egborge and RETECH Foundation’s Mentorship Officer, Segun Ogunshola for planning and organising this event, we would also like to thank the Management and Staff of Premier Hub particularly the CEO Ibukun Obe as well as Bukunmi Taiwo and Favour Lemah for hosting this event and providing all the logistic support required on the day.
Our thanks also go out to our volunteer assessors who were simply excellent on the day, who sacrificed their Saturday to come and assess and provide feedback to the NYSC members including Adekemi Adisa, Odinaka Madumere, Seyi Willoughby, Osa Aisueni, Emeka Obiwulu and Comfort Ogbona. The assessment and feedback you provided to the NYSC members will improve their chances of being shortlisted for job interviews and also being successful at interviews/assessment centres.
Thanks also to the 10 NYSC members who participated in the assessment centre, the feedback from all the NYSC members was very positive with 100% agreement that their participation in the assessment centre has definitely improved their chances of gaining employment. Next, RETECH Foundation will assign step mentors to these NYSC members who will provide further advice and guidance over the next 6 to 12 months.
