Milestone Alert: RETECH Foundation Power2Schools (P2S) Programme – Dore Numa

Late last year, we announced that RETECH Foundation had signed a Cooperation Agreement with EDP – ENERGIAS DE PORTUGAL, S.A. to provide Access to Electricity, Water and ICT facilities, co-funded by EDP, to 5 disadvantaged secondary schools in Delta State, Nigeria. One of the beneficiary schools is Dore Numa College in Warri, Delta State.

Last week, we completed the installation of a 20 kW solar system at Dore Numa College, in Warri, Delta State, Nigeria. The solar system has been connected to the school’s water system, classrooms, admin blocks, ICT & Science laboratories and sick bay.

This milestone is significant as it ensures access to affordable, reliable, sustained and modern energy for about 1,600 direct beneficiaries in 2024 increasing to over 2,600 direct beneficiaries in 2028. The solar system will also allow direct beneficiaries reliable access to portable water, thereby improving their health and sanitation as well as allow the beneficiaries receive regular practical STEM training thereby improving the quality of education they receive.

The next phase of this project is to equip the ICT laboratories with computers required for practical computer training.

We would like to extend our thanks to EDP for co-funding this project as part of the 5th edition of EDP’s A2E fund. We would also like to thank the Commissioner for Education in Delta State, The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, the Director of Schools, Ministry of Education and the Management of Dore Numa College for the roles they played in our achievement. Our thanks to Chinedu Ikemefuna, our Warri P2S coordinator for your commitment and dedication to ensure this milestone has achieved, safely.
