The Lagos State government Tuesday said that plans are on top gear to give 10,000 secondary school pupils scholarship just as RETECH foundation presented N500,000 cash prizes to 10 pupils who emerged the overall best in the 2021 Basic Education Certification Examination (BECE).
Speaking during the presentation of the cash prizes at the Lagos State Scholarship Board Office, the Board Executive Secretary, Mr Omotayo Fakolujo, said that efforts are on top gear to expand the scheme to accommodate more brilliant secondary school pupils. He added that by 2022, the state plans to have about 10,000 pupils benefit in the scheme through a partnership with the private sector.
On his part, Chairman and Trustee RETECH Foundation Ronye Egborge, explained that the scholarship awards were offered to the top 10 students in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in the entire state in recognition of their outstanding academic performance. He added that there were other 103 scholars from across the country comprising the top 10 in Anambra, Ebonyi, Edo, Enugu, Delta, Ondo and Niger states as well as the top student in 33 unity schools across the Country.
“You are the future leaders of Nigeria; | would like to encourage you to always think of what you can do for your country and not what your country can do for you. Continue to work hard to ensure you maintain your academic performance,” he said.
