Ekpen Omonbude
Ekpen holds a Bachelor Science in Economics and Statistics from the University of Benin, Benin City, a Master of Business Administration from the University of Abertay, Dundee and a Master of Science in Energy Studies (with specialisation in Energy Finance) from the University of Dundee, Dundee. He also holds a PhD in Petroleum Policy and Economics from the University of Dundee. He has nearly two decades’ experience in research, consulting, strategy and capacity building, the last 10 years of which have been devoted to managing and delivering programmes of support to developing countries in the petroleum, mining and renewable energy sectors.
He is co-founder and CEO of Bargate Advisory Limited, a UK-based energy and mining independent consultancy that focuses on market analysis, policy analysis and transaction support. Prior to Bargate, Ekpen spent nine years as Lead Economic Adviser (Natural Resources) at the Commonwealth Secretariat’s Oceans and Natural Resources Advisory Division where he was responsible for oil and gas and mineral resources policy development, fiscal system design and benchmarking, mineral, petroleum and energy sector regulation, as well as mineral and petroleum model contracts and transactions in over 20 Commonwealth Member countries.
His career spans commercial banking, international development, academia, and consulting. He has consulted for international oil and gas companies, banks, financial service providers, government agencies, financial institutions and academia. Ekpen is widely published, having written a book on cross-border oil and gas pipelines and authored several articles and delivered numerous conference workshop papers on topical issues in the oil, gas and mining sectors.
He is a member of the British Institute of Energy Economics and the International Association for Energy Economics.
Ekpen is happy to mentor anyone working towards post graduate studies in the field of energy and/or mining economics, policy, regulation and finance.
